Vitreous cloisonné enamel silver medallion pendant and brooch with a colourful Leafy Sea Dragon

‘Wild Thing’ is a large cloisonné enamel medallion pendant and brooch featuring a colourful Leafy Sea Dragon and 3 opals. It is made with vitreous fire enamel on fine silver using a long detailed process of building a very fine lattice of fine silver wires into shapes and compartments, filling each pocket with pre-ground powdered glass using a tiny paint brush, then firing multiple times to 800°C in my studio kiln. The glass melts and fuses with the precious metal, creating transparent layers of colour. The back of the medallion has cut outs showing the palette of glass colours used in this piece.

The medallion comes on a sterling silver 20” chain which can be adjusted to 18” and also has a brooch pin.

MATERIALS Fine 999 silver, sterling 925 silver back and chain, leaded glass enamel. This piece carries the traditional London Assay Office hallmark on reverse.
