Granulation is an ancient goldsmithing technique of creating tiny beads of precious metal and soldering each one individually to form patterns or decorate jewellery and costume pieces. Some of the earliest granulated pieces were discovered in Iraq, probably created by Sumerian goldsmiths over 5000 years ago.
